Sandra Schlotzhauer s Elementary Statistics Using JMP(R) provides a guide for doing what the title promises, getting basic statistical analyses from JMP. The book begins with descriptions of getting data into JMP, progresses through graphical and data summary methods, and moves into topics of statistical inference. Later chapters show analysis of variance and regression analysis. She clearly describes how to use the multitude of tools available in JMP in a way that takes the guesswork out of the software. The book is consistent in showing the right amount of material to get readers out of the woods, but not overwhelm them with details. Her long experience with using JMP in the real world is reflected by the presentation of the techniques that every data analyst needs. Elementary Statistics Using JMP(R) will be useful for practical statistical analysis and also as a companion to statistical text books for college and university courses. --Ramon C. This book is a great overview of the use of JMP software to perform elementary statistical methods. It is packed with examples and takes the reader through the step-by-step menu clicks necessary to execute each analysis task. This book would be an excellent companion to the main text in an elementary statistics course in which JMP software was available to the students. It would also be of use to a wide range of researchers and scientists, both in academia and industry, who need to perform elementary statistical analyses on their data. One of the greatest strengths of the approach used in this book is that the reader gets an explanation of each statistical method, along with a contrast of the method with other similar statistical methods. This presentation strategy prevents the JMP user from applying statistical analysis techniques incorrectly. I would highly recommend this book to JMP users, and to those interested in learning JMP to analyze data. The book s contents are widely applicable to data in a number of research fields. --Dennis W.
